So a wrong-way truck driver believed to be DUI hit a car head-on on the Glenn Jackson bridge this morning. I saw something like that *almost* happen a couple of years ago when I was taking the Corbett offramp from I-5 at 4 AM..and looked into the headlights of a car about to get on, the wrong way. Leaned on the horn, flicked the brights, shouted out the window, called 9-1-1. Dude got the message and turned around.
My friend Bob Calkins...who's spent years in and around law enforcement...sends a very wise thought about how innocent drivers can avoid situations like this:
"Stay out of the left (fast) lane late at night after bar closing time. Wrong-way DUIs tend to think they're in the right lane going carefully, and that puts them wrong way in your left lane. Little hard data but we're noticing the trend."
