Crews used jackhammers all night to break apart a 75,000 pound girder that crushed a car on the Marquam Bridge.
It was an all night job for ODOT crews to break apart a 75,000 pound girder that crushed a car on the I-5 northbound on the Interstate Bridge. They had to break it apart into pieces small enough to carry away on regular trucks.
The incident began with a crash Tuesday afternoon. The girder tipped over and crushed a car trapping 23-year-old Dana Buice. The car caught fire and she was rescued by Mark Cole who was following behind the truck carrying the girder.
Buice suffered a broken arm.
The crash caused massive traffic jams on I-5 nourthbound, I-84 westbound and Highway 26 eastbound.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
