A female cougar was hit trying to cross I-5 north of Woodland, Washington.
Friday morning, a driver in Honda on Interstate 5 north of Woodland, Washington hit a female cougar that was trying to cross the freeway.
The cougar, which weighed about 100 pounds, was severely injured. After consulting with Fish and Wildlife officers, a Washington State Patrol trooper shot and killed the animal.
The Honda had to be towed from the scene. The driver was not injured.
WSP Public Information Officer William Finn said while he had previously heard of a small bear being hit this is the first time he's heard of a cougar being hit by a car.
