Oregon State Police troopers are continuing the investigation into Tuesday night's fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to two others along Highway 18 about two miles east of McMinnville. Highway 18 re-opened about 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Preliminary information indicates that Tuesday around 9:40 p.m., a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by a 30-year old male was westbound on Highway 18 near milepost 49 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2005 Freightliner truck pulling two trailers.
The Chevrolet's driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 10-year old female passenger was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center for initial emergency medical treatment.
The truck's 44-year old male driver was also injured and transported by ambulance to Willamette Valley Medical Center.
The truck's fuel tanks both leaked diesel fuel requiring clean up coordinated by ODOT and Northwest Firefighters HazMat personnel.
OSP troopers from the McMinnville Area Command office are continuing the investigation.
OSP was assisted at the scene by Yamhill County Sheriff's Office, McMinnville Police Department, McMinnville Fire Department, and ODOT.
