New legislation aimed at your studded tires is the latest fashion in Salem.
Bills aiming to raise money to defray the damage studded tires cause to Oregon roads will get a hearing today in the Oregon Legislature.
The Oregon Department of Transportation estimates the tires do roughly $40 million worth of damage to roadways each year. This session, a trio of bills aim at raising money through fees or permits to cover the cost of repair.
House Bill 2278 would apply a $10 fee to studded tires.
House Bill 2277 would require a permit for the tires.
House Bill 2397 would assign an unnamed fee to the tires.
