An Alaska Airlines jetliner made an emergency landing in Portland after the pilot passed out.

Alaska Airlines flight 473 was over Oregon en route from Los Angeles to Seattle when the pilot passed out. The co-pilot took over control. The pilot regained consciousness and went into the cabin where a doctor on the flight cared for him.

The co-pilot arranged an emergency landing at Portland International Airport, so the pilot could get medical care. The landing happened without incident. The pilot was taken to a hospital for treatment. His symptoms were similar to food poisoning or the flu.

Passengers say they weren't told anything until the plane landed, although some passengers knew something was up when they saw the doctor treating the pilot in the cabin.
