Members of a corrections center work crew helped to rescue the kids from the river.
Three kids, ages 8, 10 and 16, went canoeing in Salmon Creek Wednesday. The river is flowing very fast from the recent rains. Their canoe overturned near the Klineline Bridge. A work crew from the Larch Corrections Center witnessed the accident and two members of the crew went into the river to help the kids.
Crews from Clark County Fire District Six and Vancouver Fire responded with their combined technical rescue team. They pulled all five people from the river.
The kids and two corrections workers were hospitalized for medical evaluations.
While the kids were wearing life vests, according toe Chief Green, he says only experienced boaters should be in the river due to the fast moving water.
