EUGENE, Ore. – A single tweet Wednesday morning shocked Oregon Ducks fans: “Chip Kelly is the new coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, according to league sources. No announcement yet.”

The tweet came from ESPN Senior NFL Analyst Chris Mortenson and was re-tweeted thousands of times within minutes.

The news, if true, comes as such a shock because the school and fans had been assured that after a serious flirtation with the NFL, Kelly had decided to stay with the Ducks. Athletic Director Rob Mullens even held a news conference saying the school was “ecstatic” that Kelly was staying in Eugene.
