Icy conditions contributed to crashes throughout the Willamette Valley
Fog and wet roadways froze Friday morning causing extremely slippery driving conditions on roads in the Willamette Valley.
Oregon State Police troopers responded, with other agencies, to nearly 50 crashes.
According to the OSP Northern Command Center dispatch in Salem, nearly half of the crashes occurred in Marion County. Sixteen of the 23 crashes occurred along six miles stretch of Interstate 5 between milepost 255 and 261 in the Salem area. Troopers from the Albany Area Command office responded to 11 crashes, most on secondary state highways. McMinnville area troopers responded to 9 reported crashes.
OSP and ODOT urge travelers to keep current on road and weather conditions in the coming days by monitoring media reports and TripCheck.com. Winter driving tips are available on ODOT's website.
