Officer hit by tree recovering in hospital

A Portland Police Officer is in serious condition after being hit by a tree during Monday's storm.

The Portland Police officer injured Monday during a training accident is continuing to recover at a Portland hospital.

Officer Paul Meyer of the Portland Police Bureau is assigned to the Training Division and the Special Emergency Reaction Team. Officer Meyer is a 19-year veteran.

Officer Meyer is in serious condition.

Officers who witnessed the accident described the falling tree as a telephone pole-sized tree that fell from 30 feet in the sky before striking Officer Meyer on his ATV.
