BIG IMPACT ON SOUTH WATERFRONT AREA

Traffic impacted Oct. 8-12 in South Waterfront area due to final placement of 28 massive girders for light rail construction

Traffic in the South Waterfront area will be impacted the week of Oct. 8-12 by the placement of 28 massive girders as part of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project. This is the final set of girder placement for the 1,739 foot long Harbor Structure. The 40+ ton girders were fabricated in Tigard by Fought & Company and individually transported to the construction site at SW River Parkway.

 Traffic impacts

  • SW Harrison Street between SW Naito Parkway and Harbor Drive will be closed to auto traffic Monday, Oct. 8 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Naito exit from I-5 North will be closed on Wednesday, Oct. 10 through Friday, Oct. 12 between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. Drivers should use Macadam exit.
  • SW Harbor Drive southbound will be reduced to one lane Oct. 9-12 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Temporary complete closures of Harbor Drive will occur while girders are suspended over Harbor Drive on Oct. 10 and 11.
  • No left turn onto SW River Parkway will be allowed Tuesday, Oct. 9. Enter area on Montgomery or Sheridan. No right turn from SW River Parkway onto Harbor Drive will be allowed on Oct. 10 and 11. SW River Parkway between Harbor Drive and SW River Drive will be closed on Friday, Oct. 12 from 7 a.m to 9 p.m.
  • The Portland Streetcar will not operate between PSU Urban Center and SW Lowell Street in South Waterfront on Monday, Oct. 8 and Friday, Oct. 12. Shuttle buses will provide alternative service for the entire service day, and riders should expect some delays through the construction zone.
  • The east sidewalk on Harrison Street is currently closed to pedestrians and cyclists and should reopen the week of Oct. 22. Both sidewalks on Harrison will be closed Friday, Oct. 12. There will be other periodic sidewalk, bike lane and turn lane restrictions in the areas throughout the week to ensure safety.

 Viewing locations

The movement and placement of the girders is very complicated due to the built environment around the alignment between Naito Parkway and Harbor Drive. Media can get good shots of the construction along the west side of SW Harrison Street.

 

Traffic impacted along SW Lincoln in Downtown Portland for a month due to light rail construction Intersection at SW Lincoln and 4th Avenue reconstructed between Oct. 8-Nov. 2

 Beginning Monday, Oct. 8, traffic in the area of SW Lincoln and 4th Avenue will be impacted for a month due to Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail Transit Project construction. The intersection of SW 4th Avenue and Lincoln Street is being rebuilt now that utility relocation work has been completed.  

 Traffic impacts

  • SW Lincoln Street will be local access only between 1st and 4th avenues for the entire four-week period (Oct. 8-Nov. 2).
  • Oct. 8-17: right turns will not be permitted from 4th Avenue onto Lincoln Street.
  • Oct. 8-17: all westbound buses on Lincoln Street will be rerouted to SW Harrison.
  • Oct. 18, starting at 7 a.m. through Oct. 19 at 6 p.m.: the I-405 ramp 1B to SW 4th Avenue will be closed. All buses on Lincoln will be rerouted to SW Harrison.
  • Nov. 1-2: eastbound buses on Lincoln will be rerouted to SW Harrison.

 While the work is scheduled between Oct. 8 and Nov. 2, the schedule could shift due to weather conditions.
