Mark Wandell is a Summa Humanities teacher at Meadow Park Middle School in Beaverton.  This is what his nominator and parent Carolynn Yancey had to say about him:

Mr. Wandell is amazing! The time and effort he puts into making the kids want to do the activities that helps them learn humanities is beyond anything I have ever seen. My son Bryan hates to miss his class.  Bryan says right now they are doing a Civil War lesson. Mr. Wandell is using a simulation method where the two eighth-grade classes recreate a Civil War between them. Through the simulation they learn about how the war worked, different battles, and the major personalities involved. They use literary skills, reasoning and logic, along with some math. The intricacy of the simulation is amazing; he makes cards and has a huge pin board. Each of the kids portrays a character, and based on whom and how that character was in real life, influences the kid’s decisions. Teachers at other schools have even heard about this amazing humanities teacher. As a parent I want to be in his class!

Congratulations Mark Wandell from K103!
