Andy Cartmill is a Senior Program Educator for the Washington County Health and Human Services Department in Addiction Services in Hillsboro.  His co-worker and nominator, Kathy Prenevost had this to say about Andy:

Andy provides important education to kids all over Washington County to help them understand the issues and dangers of substance use in our community. He’s been working for 26 years as a Health Educator, and 15 of those have been specifically in the field of Alcohol, Drug, and Gambling Services.  Andy has vast knowledge of the impact of drugs, alcohol and gambling on youth and adults. He spends his time going out to middle schools and high schools in Washington County, speaking to classrooms and parent groups about addiction and substance use. He has participated in our Washington County cable TV show called "Community Matters" in which he goes out into the community and talks to people on the streets about their knowledge of alcohol, drugs and gambling.  Andy also visits jails and speaks to inmates and high-risk youth. He informs folks of the services in our community for treatment and support.  Andy is a dynamic, knowledgeable, compassionate speaker and due to the genuine presence that he portrays, often times, kids come up to him after his presentations and reach out and share their stories; parents often give feedback that Andy's presentations positively affected their child.  Andy conducts over 80 presentations a year, and is highly respected as a speaker and is often times asked to come back.  His approach does not encompass the scare tactics that have been done in the past, but he encourages the concept of accepting individual responsibility and to make informed choices around the issues of drug, alcohol and gambling behavior. This style resonates with audiences as his genuine, authentic, and non-judgmental approach is very evident in his presentation.  Andy is a father, and he brings that perspective and a personal commitment to his work, and this passion for helping others both as parent and a good person are very evident and impactful to the audiences that he addresses.

Congratulations Andy Cartmill from K103!
