Ric Ocasek, the lead singer of the Cars, Songwriter, Producer, and widely known as one of the nicest guys in the music business, has passed away at the age of 70. He was found in his Manhattan apartment by his estranged wife Paulina Porizkova on Sunday. It's presumed he died of natural causes. The Cars had just been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
Why is that we want (need) to listen to music from our favorite artists when they die? It's healing but also it's a time to pay tribute in our hearts to someone who's music imprinted on our souls. After I graduated High School in 1988 I was still very much a rock chick teasing my hair along with Axl from Guns N' Roses. So I don't remember how I was turned on to The Cars album a decade after it came out but I became obsessed playing it over and over. It's my favorite Cars album and IMHO it's one of the greatest albums by any band. I had just added the vinyl version back into my collection this summer, and I had to listen to it all the way through, twice.
There are SO MANY great songs by The Cars here are a couple of my favorites and a couple of their poppy MTV hits including You Might Think, the first-ever winner of The MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year in 1984.
